Description
As a Lineman at Rochester Telephone Company, you will be responsible for the installation,
maintenance, and repair of the company's telecommunications infrastructure, including lines, cables, and
related equipment. Your role will involve working with a team to ensure the efficient operation of the
network and deliver high-quality services to customers. This position requires technical skills, physical
fitness, and a commitment to safety and customer satisfaction. This position will have a strong focus on
locating.
Requirements
1. Installation and Maintenance:
- Install and repair lines, cables, and other telecommunications infrastructure.
- Perform aerial and underground line work, including climbing poles and towers.
- Install and maintain network equipment and related devices.
- Test and troubleshoot network connections to identify and resolve issues.
- Responsible for accurately identifying and marking the locations of underground fiber optic cables
using specialized detection equipment
- Follow safety protocols and industry standards during installation and maintenance tasks.
2. Equipment and Tools:
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment used in line work, such as cable splicers, line trucks, and
testing devices.
- Inspect and ensure the proper functioning of tools and equipment.
- Follow maintenance procedures and report any equipment malfunctions or damages.
3. Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols to ensure personal safety and the safety of team members
and the public.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Follow safety procedures when working at heights or in hazardous environments.
- Comply with company policies, procedures, and regulations, including those related to safety and
customer service.
4. Network Troubleshooting:
- Identify and troubleshoot network issues using appropriate testing equipment and techniques.
- Collaborate with team members to diagnose and resolve network connectivity problems.
- Follow established procedures for problem resolution and escalate complex issues as necessary.
5. Customer Service:
- Interact with customers in a professional and courteous manner.
- Respond to customer inquiries and concerns, addressing them promptly and effectively.
- Provide assistance and support to customers during service installations or repairs.
- Maintain positive relationships with customers, ensuring their satisfaction with the services provided.
6. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including installation, repairs, and maintenance
activities.
- Complete required documentation and reports, such as work orders and service tickets.
- Provide updates and reports to supervisors or team leaders as required.
